Students who have minimal previous studies focused on Latin America will gain the greatest advantage from our multidisciplinary program. This includes foundational courses covering the region's history, political systems, cultural aspects, social dynamics, as well as environmental and sustainability issues, complemented by intensive language instruction and specialized classes. Stanford's M.A. in Latin American Studies equips students with fundamental skills in modern methodologies like data visualization, big data processing, and geographic information systems (GIS), enhancing their professional capabilities. Those interested in pursuing joint degrees with the Graduate School of Business (M.B.A.), School of Law (J.D.), or School of Medicine (M.D.) must secure separate admission to each program.
