The Latin American history graduate program provides training and research opportunities in two main periods: colonial and modern history. Over the past ten years, doctoral candidates have investigated diverse topics such as Mexican migration patterns, national park establishment in Brazil and Argentina, inflation's historical context, and Brazil's colonial frontier expansion. Since 2010, program graduates have obtained tenure-track positions at institutions like Colgate and NC State, teaching roles at smaller colleges such as the University of St. Thomas (MN), along with postdoctoral appointments and visiting lecturer positions. Faculty members regularly teach introductory courses, specialized colloquia, and advanced seminars covering subjects from modern Mexican/Brazilian history to the region's environmental past.
