Aspiring law students who wish to combine their J.D. with an M.S. in Computer Science need to submit applications to the Computer Science Department either (1) simultaneously with their Law School application, or (2) following Law School acceptance, provided they apply no later than the earliest of: (a) completing their second year of law studies, or (b) the Computer Science Department's application cutoff for the academic year after that second year. Beyond gaining separate admission to both schools, candidates must obtain authorization from both institutions to undertake this dual-degree path. Participants in the J.D./M.S. program can commence their studies in either school. Academic advisors from both departments will collaborate to design and oversee each student's combined curriculum. Full-time enrollment in the Law School is mandatory during the first year of legal studies. Subsequently, students may register in either school and select courses across both programs. All candidates must fulfill the distinct graduation requirements for both degrees as outlined in Stanford's official publications. The Law School will determine which Computer Science courses qualify for J.D. credit, while the Computer Science Department will approve relevant Law School courses for M.S. credit. These approvals may be standardized for all dual-degree candidates or customized based on individual academic plans.
