The CSRE program enables students to pursue a thematic concentration that examines different ethnic groups or investigates cross-cutting issues affecting diverse communities both in the United States and globally. Rather than concentrating on a single ethnic group, Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity encourages students to work with their advisors to create customized curricula. These programs of study might analyze multiple ethnic groups within the U.S., draw comparisons between American ethnic groups and those in other countries, or explore topics like diaspora studies or indigenous sovereignty across national boundaries. CSRE majors benefit from access to courses across more than 22 academic disciplines taught by the program's affiliated faculty.
A high school diploma or the equivalent is required in order to enroll at Stanford. Generally, we receive English proficiency exam results (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test, etc.) from applicants whose native language is not English and/or the primary language of instruction at their secondary school is not English.
