Examine how communication practices, technologies, and media influence society, culture, and psychology through both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Communication majors study these effects through various analytical lenses. Stanford's Communication Department centers on three key inquiries: In what ways do communication methods, especially journalism, influence political systems? How does media engagement affect human psychology? And what cultural transformations emerge from evolving media technologies and practices? Students investigate these themes across different academic levels, from foundational courses to upper-division classes and optional internships. The program also offers chances for in-depth research projects. Graduates develop the analytical and critical thinking abilities essential for advanced academic pursuits or direct professional advancement.
A high school diploma or the equivalent is required in order to enroll at Stanford. Generally, we receive English proficiency exam results (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test, etc.) from applicants whose native language is not English and/or the primary language of instruction at their secondary school is not English.
