The program provides conventional college courses for students pursuing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant certification. This FAA-accredited Aircraft Program stands as the sole source of tailored instruction for the aerospace sector in San Antonio. As Airframe Mechanics, students focus on every aspect of airframe construction and repair, gaining thorough training and readiness for careers in manufacturing and maintaining all types of aircraft, ranging from small fabric-covered planes to large jumbo jets. They explore all areas of aircraft upkeep and repair, including instruction in fuel, hydraulic, pneumatic environmental control, electrical, and flight control systems. In Powerplant Mechanics, students concentrate on aircraft internal combustion, turbojet, turboshaft, and turboprop engines. They develop a complete grasp of the functioning, maintenance, and repair of reciprocating and turbine aircraft engines and their related systems. This systems training covers lubrication, carburetion, ignition, electrical, supercharging, induction, exhaust, and propellers.
