The Advanced TESOL Certificate Program integrates creative thinking and critical teaching methods, equipping graduates with diverse advanced techniques for various roles. This 15-credit curriculum offers participants theoretical knowledge, multicultural insights, and hands-on experience for English as a New Language (ENL) teaching environments. To obtain the certificate, students need to finish all 15 graduate-level education courses, successfully pass the New York State TESOL Content Specialty Test (CST), and complete 12 credits in another language. Students may complete any lacking language requirements either during the program or via CLEP examinations.

A master's degree
Official transcripts showing a B (3.0 GPA) or better average
New York State initial teacher certification or eligibility for teaching certification. Entry into the TESOL program is open to those students who hold initial certification in early childhood, elementary or childhood, middle childhood, secondary or adolescent education, literacy or special education. Students who do not hold initial certification should apply to the joint M.S.Ed. program in Childhood Education and TESOL.
