The Department of Environmental Sciences offers an innovative professional science master's (PSM) program in environmental science management. This unique graduate degree blends scientific training with career-focused education, expanding opportunities beyond traditional science and math graduate programs. The curriculum equips students for diverse roles including research coordination and technology commercialization. Developed in partnership with industry leaders and supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, this program aligns with emerging professional demands. Unlike conventional science master's degrees, the PSM integrates practical components like corporate internships and business coursework alongside environmental science studies. Students complete a six-credit internship with regional employers, with current advisory board members including Ameren, Illinois EPA, Leidos, and several environmental organizations. These industry partnerships guarantee the program's relevance to local employment needs. The program culminates with students producing either a thesis or research paper drawing from their internship experiences.
