The Department of Geography's wide-ranging curriculum supports students with diverse academic interests and career aspirations. Our Master's program in the College of Arts and Sciences builds fundamental geographic knowledge while allowing specialization in specific sub-disciplines. SIUE geography graduates enjoy numerous career prospects, with our program being the sole geography offering in the St. Louis metro region - making our alumni highly sought after in the expanding geospatial job market. Potential employers span federal/state agencies, national security firms, technology corporations, engineering consultancies, utility providers, municipal governments, agricultural enterprises, and environmental nonprofits. Career paths for our graduates include geospatial analysis, cartography, urban planning, retail site selection, climate research, natural resource management, sustainability advising, and park service roles. Thesis Option - The Master of Science requires at least 30 credit hours, including 21 graduate-level geography credits. Non-Thesis Option - The Master of Science requires 36 total credit hours, with 24 being graduate-level geography courses.
