Our extensive graduate program, delivered by the School of Engineering, enables students to earn an advanced degree in civil engineering while developing specialized knowledge. Participants can select a focus area in environmental/water resources, geotechnical, structural, or transportation engineering. Designed for both working professionals and full-time scholars, the curriculum equips learners with essential skills for career growth. The program provides hands-on research opportunities in field and laboratory settings, guided by distinguished faculty members who are leaders in their disciplines. Earning a Master of Science may become necessary for future Professional Engineering (PE) licensure. Our curriculum aligns with the educational standards set by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). A civil engineering graduate degree from SIUE creates diverse career pathways, with potential employment in consulting firms, government organizations, industrial sectors, or academic institutions. Graduates with proper experience and higher education may establish independent consulting practices. SIUE's program enhances career prospects and strengthens competitiveness in the job market.
Environmental engineering encompasses designing and operating water distribution networks, wastewater systems, treatment plants, managing waste materials, and implementing pollution control measures. Water resources engineering involves planning and maintaining stormwater management systems to regulate runoff volume and quality. These systems may incorporate green infrastructure like vegetative roofs, permeable surfaces, retention ponds, infiltration systems, and various other solutions.
