The anthropology program at SIUE is part of the College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Anthropology. SIUE's program focuses on practical applications of anthropology, specializing in areas like community involvement, sustainability, global challenges, cultural preservation, museum studies, bioarchaeology, and forensic anthropology. The discipline fosters understanding and appreciation for humanity's biological and cultural variety. SIUE students engage in hands-on learning through independent studies, global travel, fieldwork, internships, and participation in anthropology clubs and honor societies.
Graduates with an anthropology bachelor's degree secure positions in diverse fields including secondary education, corporate sectors, cultural resource management, archaeological contracting, environmental research, museums, healthcare, nonprofits, and government agencies. Numerous alumni continue their education through advanced degrees, paving the way for academic careers, research positions, or museum-related professions. Anthropology's broad scope encourages students to pair it with complementary fields like history, sociology, geography, natural sciences, psychology, healthcare, legal studies, and creative arts. These combined studies provide deeper insights into both local and global challenges, enhancing career prospects across multiple sectors.
