This interdisciplinary graduate program offers advanced education culminating in either a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry. Students receive comprehensive instruction in diverse fields including biochemistry, biophysics, bacteriology, genetics, immunology, microbial physiology, virology, mycology, molecular and cellular biology, developmental biology, cancer biology, and structural biology. The collaborating departments feature state-of-the-art research labs with specialized facilities for P3 containment, electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, and flow cytometry. Carbondale's University library ranks among the nation's top 100 research libraries, housing over 2 million volumes and maintaining a vast collection of biological and molecular science journals. Additionally, Springfield hosts an extensive biological sciences and medical library.
