Geographic Information Science (GIS) caters to students passionate about using geospatial technologies like remote sensing for environmental purposes. As technology evolves how we monitor and assess our surroundings, our GIS specialization positions students at the forefront of innovation.
Our curriculum emphasizes collecting, interpreting, presenting, and applying geospatial data to address real-world challenges. Students gain expertise in geographic and cartographic principles while mastering how to effectively share their insights. This dual focus equips graduates to excel and advance in the vast, growing geospatial employment sector.
All Geography and Environmental Resources majors complete a set of core courses to build foundational geographic understanding and abilities. They then select one of two specializations—Geographic Information Science (GIS) or Environmental Sustainability—to hone analytical and research skills aligned with their academic and career goals. With numerous elective options, students can acquire specialized knowledge that enhances their chosen track, ensuring the major adapts to a wide array of professional aspirations.
