An advanced facility and dedicated faculty drive an Automotive Technology program that establishes the national benchmark.

We provide the sole Bachelor's degree in Automotive Technology in Illinois, and our strong job placement rate demonstrates our effectiveness. Graduates are actively sought by leading corporations, suppliers, and government entities for roles in technical product support, management, business operations, training, and service engineering.

Amid ongoing shifts in the automotive sector, our students concentrate not only on technical automotive courses but also engage with business/management, computing, and communications. Our forward-thinking faculty prioritize experiential learning, translating theoretical concepts from the classroom into practical applications within our service centers.

National accolades for Automotive Technology include receiving the Automotive Industry Planning Council's Award of Excellence three times—in 1991, 1999, and 2005. This award recognized the premier automotive program in the country, with eligibility limited to once every five years per program. After the award's discontinuation in 2007, SIU Carbondale remains the only university to have earned this national honor three times.
