Within the 2D arts discipline, the BFA and MFA drawing programs cultivate students' unique artistic perspectives while fostering exploration of themes, techniques, and mediums. Learners engage in a rigorous studio environment enriched by insights from visiting artists, critics, and faculty members.
The drawing program builds a comprehensive interdisciplinary base, closely integrating with painting and printmaking within the broader 2D studies. Students employ diverse materials such as graphite, charcoal, mixed media, collage, and digital tools, blending conventional and innovative approaches.
The drawing coursework aligns seamlessly with both painting and printmaking studies. The degree track offers adaptable frameworks, allowing students to discover their optimal creative processes.
Before program admission, applicants must fulfill foundational requirements: introductory art history, drawing, and 2D/3D design courses. Additionally, candidates must present a successful portfolio review showcasing prior artistic work, whether completed at SIU or other institutions.
