Anthropologists explore human existence across various aspects, through time and geography. This discipline encompasses four primary branches: contemporary human communities (Socio-cultural Anthropology), ancient civilizations (Archaeology), language systems (Linguistic Anthropology), and biological evolution (Biological Anthropology). Southern Illinois University provides students with a comprehensive, four-field perspective on human studies at both undergraduate and graduate levels, coupled with chances to collaborate with engaged scholars across all specialties.
Furthermore, the Anthropology program fosters strong connections with the Center for Archaeological Investigations and the University Museum. Numerous students engage in fieldwork and collection management projects with these entities. Professors actively contribute to interdisciplinary campus research hubs including the Center for Ecology, the Center for Delta Studies, and the Global Media Research Center.
