Southern Arkansas University's Master of Arts in Teaching program helps professionals with bachelor's degrees transition into teaching careers for K-12 education. Students must select their specialization (elementary, middle school, secondary, or K-12 certification) before beginning and maintain that focus throughout. The SAU MAT program qualifies graduates for initial Arkansas teaching certification in most subjects (excluding Special Education). Out-of-state students should verify their home state's certification requirements.

This 30-credit program combines 24 online graduate credits with a 6-credit teaching internship, which may be completed while working full-time as a classroom teacher. Note that Arkansas History is a graduation requirement for K-6, Middle School, and Secondary Social Studies concentrations.
