The Bachelor of Social Work serves as the foundational professional qualification, with the program receiving accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education. This undergraduate degree prepares graduates for diverse social work environments such as healthcare facilities, educational institutions, mental health clinics, and various public and private social service organizations. In certain states like Arkansas, this qualification meets the requirements for professional licensure. Beyond serving as the initial professional credential, the social work curriculum provides excellent preparation for students
pursuing advanced professional studies. This major equips students for postgraduate programs in fields including social work, psychology, counseling, and related helping professions. SAU's social work program follows the generalist practice approach and operates within an interdisciplinary department, offering future professionals exposure to multiple fields while delivering comprehensive social work training.
When applying to the Social Work Program, a student must have completed the following:
At least 30 hours of the general education requirements.
The Social Work Program application located on the SAU webpage under LPA/BSS.
An earned overall GPA of at least 2.5 and a Social Work GPA of at least 3.0.
Introduction to Social Work, Social Policy, Cultural Diversity, Human Behavior, and Social Environment I or II.
Minimum English Requirements (must meet one of the following)
A score of 500 or higher on the written TOEFL
A score of 173 or higher on the computerized TOEFL
A score of 61 or higher on the internet-based TOEFL
A score of Band 5.5 (overall) on the IELTS
A score of 43 or higher on PTE (Pearson Test of English)
A score of 90 or higher on Duolingo
