The Master of Education in Educational Administration caters to professionals currently in or aspiring to administrative roles within schools, such as principals, assistant principals, curriculum directors, and supervisors. This program fulfills the principal endorsement criteria for South Dakota and adheres to the National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) Building Level Standards mandated by legislation.
Starting in the 2021-2022 academic year, significant updates have been implemented through a program redesign. Notably, the requirement to choose between elementary or secondary specializations has been eliminated. Instead, the curriculum now provides comprehensive training across both educational levels to satisfy South Dakota's principal certification standards. Additionally, students must complete Plan C from the Graduate Catalog, comprising at least 35 credit hours for graduation. This adjustment guarantees that participants fulfill internship obligations for principal certification, gaining hands-on experience in both elementary and secondary settings. Below you'll find the necessary coursework and suggested academic progression.
