Civil Engineering encompasses the planning, design, construction, and management of vital infrastructure such as highways, airports, buildings, bridges, dams, water systems, wastewater treatment facilities, irrigation networks, coastal developments, and other critical structures that support modern society. Civil Engineers play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining the world's infrastructure.
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department is committed to delivering an exceptional, challenging, and hands-on education focused on solving real-world problems by combining academic instruction, research opportunities, and continuous learning. To achieve this mission, the Department has set specific program goals outlining the anticipated achievements of our graduates in their early careers.
Program Goals
The Civil Engineering Program at SDSU equips students to accomplish these career objectives within five years of graduation:
Attaining professional licensure or specialized credentials.
Committing to continuous education through advanced degrees and/or professional growth activities like engagement in industry associations and attendance at professional events.
Participating actively in professional, community, and global initiatives with a career path toward leadership roles.
