The Physical Education Teacher Education program equips students with the expertise and practical skills needed to teach physical education in preK-12 settings. The curriculum features specialized courses that build both teaching proficiency and personal fitness abilities, covering essential school PE content. Students also learn to design curricula, manage sports programs, accommodate diverse learners, and instruct in dance and health education across grade levels.
Combined with required teacher preparation courses, this program qualifies graduates to take the Praxis II exams and pursue South Dakota teaching certification. Alumni have secured positions throughout the Midwest - including South Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Nebraska - as well as in California and Illinois. Beyond traditional school teaching, this degree opens doors to careers with youth organizations like Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCAs, and community recreation programs.
