The Journalism program aims to equip students with the skills needed for careers in journalism and related areas like public relations and advertising. It also supports those transitioning careers or adapting to the field's evolving technological needs. Additionally, the program helps students transfer to four-year journalism programs and fosters media literacy within the community.
Learning is enhanced through practical experience with the student newspaper, The Skyline View, including its digital platforms. Program participants produce Viewpoint magazine each spring and gain exposure at local and regional conferences, along with internship and job opportunities.
Degree and certificate options train students for roles in print, digital, and broadcast journalism—including reporting, writing, and editing—as well as technical writing, copyediting, social media, marketing, advertising, public relations, and communications.
