With over 400 million native speakers, Spanish ranks as the world's second most spoken language after Mandarin. Recognized as an official language by both the United Nations and European Union, it's the top choice for second language acquisition among native English speakers in America. Our program is committed to student development, offering advanced courses in translation, interpretation, and Spanish teaching methodology, along with other classes designed to enhance linguistic abilities and cultural understanding. Through our Spanish curriculum, students gain proficiency in the language while discovering the rich traditions, literature, cinema, and arts of Spanish-speaking nations - both in academic settings and through immersive experiences. A highlight of our department is the faculty-led Latin American Studies Program in Puebla, Mexico, which has operated successfully for three decades with over 500 participants. Joining LASP represents an opportunity to build bridges across borders, fostering deep personal and academic connections with Mexican culture. Participants can apply earned credits toward Spanish majors/minors, Latin American Studies minors, or International Studies majors.
