Intiman Theatre has teamed up with Seattle Central College to launch an Associate Arts degree program focused on Technical Theatre for Social Justice (TTSJ), with applications currently open. This two-year program allows students to collaborate with Union professionals on Intiman's mainstage productions while exploring equity and social justice studies at the college. The AA-DTA degree provides a pathway for transferring to four-year institutions. Through partnerships with the Western Washington Theatrical Training Trust and IATSE locals 15, 488, and 887, the program offers hands-on training, apprenticeships, and skills development for joining the IATSE Union and pursuing backstage careers in entertainment. The curriculum covers technical theatre and film disciplines like costume/props construction, lighting, electrical work, projections, sound engineering, and scenic carpentry/painting, alongside coursework in modern ethical issues, environmental sustainability, and social transformation.
