SBCC's Health Information Technology program offers online certificates and degrees to students across California, particularly in the South Central Coast Region. The two-year associate degree program fulfills the core educational requirements for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) exam, while specialized tracks give graduates additional career focus areas. The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) particularly recommends the Health Data Analytics specialization, which leads to the Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) credential. AHIMA's latest workforce research highlights data analysis as the most in-demand future skill, yet fewer than 300 professionals currently hold the CHDA certification.

This initiative addresses healthcare, a key industry in the South Central Coast region, while targeting the growing HIT Data Analytics Specialist role identified by our regional health sector advisor.

The evolving HIM field will increasingly require specialized knowledge workers, creating greater opportunities for associate degree holders. Technical HIM professionals at this level will develop focused expertise, demonstrating to employers that they possess deep specialization in areas like privacy compliance, auditing, medical coding, or data analytics.
