The Environmental Horticulture A.S. Degree with a Landscape Contracting focus equips students to earn their C-27 landscape contractor's license and pursue professional landscaping careers.
Program Objectives -
Analyze soil ecosystems, covering formation, structure, health preservation, and their impact on landscape plant development.
Design effective landscape irrigation systems, addressing plant hydration requirements, system setup, operation timing, performance evaluation, and issue resolution.
Apply sustainable landscape design concepts, encompassing soil preservation, nutrient cycling, water-efficient irrigation, pest control, pruning techniques, and workplace safety measures.
Outline landscape construction procedures involving safety standards, land grading, drainage systems, construction calculations, hardscape installation, blueprint interpretation, project estimation, and eco-friendly practices.
Apply practical horticultural knowledge in work settings, adhering to safety guidelines and demonstrating proper handling of both powered and manual landscaping tools.
Develop landscape design capabilities through the creative process, preliminary sketches, plant selection, and incorporation of sustainable practices, terrain modification, hardscape features, and watering systems.
Acquire hands-on experience crafting and utilizing paving stones, concrete elements, wooden landscape features, and various hardscape components.
Graduates of high schools or equivalent are eligible for admission, with the equivalent of a GPA of 2.0 or better.
Students must be 18 years or older by the start of the semester without restrictions.
