Students pursuing a Child Development degree typically aim to work directly with children and families or in indirect roles supporting youth through administration, advocacy, service, or research. The Child and Adolescent Development major explores both classic and modern research focused on fostering healthy development from conception through young adulthood. This program emphasizes critical analysis, writing proficiency, digital skills, public communication, and leadership development - equipping graduates for diverse career paths.
The Associate in Arts for Transfer in Child and Adolescent Development gives students essential foundational knowledge for seamless transition to bachelor's programs at CSU institutions. Offered exclusively at California Community Colleges, the Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T/AS-T) guarantees admission to a CSU campus in a related field (though not necessarily a specific location). AA-T/AS-T graduates receive priority admission to comparable programs and enjoy GPA benefits when applying to competitive CSU campuses or majors. Prospective AA-T/AS-T students should consult with an academic counselor for detailed guidance about this transfer pathway.
Graduates of high schools or equivalent are eligible for admission, with the equivalent of a GPA of 2.0 or better.
Students must be 18 years or older by the start of the semester without restrictions.
