The Athletic/Personal Fitness Training degree focus equips students to transition to a four-year institution and pursue kinesiology studies, specializing in Athletic Training or Sports Medicine. Completed practicum hours may apply toward athletic trainer certification.
Program Objectives -
Differentiate between Physical Education and Athletic programs.
Acknowledge the societal, community, and individual benefits offered by Physical Education and Athletics.
Exhibit understanding of functional anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics while competently performing various physical activities.
Outline proper treatment protocols for common sports-related injuries.
Pinpoint evaluation criteria for injuries and establish safe return-to-play protocols.
Execute and apply sport-specific rehabilitation exercises.
Evaluate client exercise motivation and create tailored health behavior strategies aligned with the Transtheoretical Model.
Design customized fitness regimens for diverse populations, applying NASM/ACSM standards through coronary risk assessment and exercise planning.
Conduct practical fitness evaluations and muscular balance tests.
Achieve academic proficiency to pass industry-standard certification exams for health and fitness roles.
Utilize strong communication abilities to guide both individual and group training sessions.
Graduates of high schools or equivalent are eligible for admission, with the equivalent of a GPA of 2.0 or better.
Students must be 18 years or older by the start of the semester without restrictions.
