The Middle East Studies Program focuses on examining the history, governance, diverse cultures, faiths, and languages of one of the world's most intricate and pivotal regions.
This major additionally explores themes like democratic transitions, armed conflicts, the influence of religious beliefs and ideologies, and how historical legacy shapes both the geographical and cultural identity of the area. Students will enhance their learning through a Study Abroad opportunity, gaining direct exposure to Middle Eastern lifestyles, customs, heritage, and historical contexts.
The Associate in Arts in Middle East Studies (AA degree) serves as an interdisciplinary foundation, preparing students to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Middle East Studies at UCSB or other UC/CSU institutions with comparable programs.
Graduates of high schools or equivalent are eligible for admission, with the equivalent of a GPA of 2.0 or better.
Students must be 18 years or older by the start of the semester without restrictions.
