The MSSE program, delivered by the Computer Engineering Department, equips students with an education that expands upon conventional computer science and engineering while adopting a holistic software engineering perspective. This curriculum blends evolving technological trends with insights into fast-changing architectures and their impact on software development processes, where system-level design is paramount, component-based development is commonplace, and workforce globalization continues to grow.
The Data Science concentration trains both students and professionals to examine and interpret diverse real-world datasets, formulate insightful questions, derive meaningful conclusions, and produce compelling data visualizations. By merging theoretical knowledge with hands-on data exploration, participants master the fundamentals of deriving insights from information, validating findings, and scaling analyses for Big Data applications. Collaborative projects form a core component, preparing graduates for real-world industry environments.
This specialization covers numerous analytical approaches, including data cleaning, initial exploration, predictive modeling, pattern discovery, web data extraction, natural language processing, recommendation systems, network and opinion analysis, statistical validation, visual recognition, temporal data examination, neural networks, and information representation. Learners experience the complete analytical workflow - from converting real-world phenomena into datasets to effectively communicating analytical discoveries.
