Amid growing worldwide cybersecurity risks, our country's ongoing safety and financial growth rely on expanding the cybersecurity workforce. The Computer Engineering Department provides a 9-unit Secure Test Engineering (STE) Certificate program for students pursuing careers in cybersecurity and information protection. This program's curriculum focuses on core principles for creating secure software systems, encompassing software systems engineering, quality control, and enterprise platforms.
University Advanced Certificate Criteria
Post-baccalaureate advanced certificate programs deliver specialized, practical education for targeted career objectives. To qualify for admission, applicants must complete an intake form or apply via CalState Apply and provide official transcripts (demonstrating completion of a U.S. bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or its international equivalent). A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 is required.
U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, or the completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited, and approved institution from a country outside of the U.S. A 2.5 GPA (from the 0.0-4.0 U.S. grading scale) in the last degree completed or a 2.5 GPA in the last two years of full-time study.
English Language Proficiency: IELTS: 6.5; TOEFL – 80 (IBT), paper based – 550, Computer based – 213; Pearson Test of English (PTE) – 53. GRE scores are required of all international applicants and all domestic applicants with bachelor’s GPAs beneath 3.25. Those with five or more years of direct experience in hardware through employment may request a waiver of the GRE. The absolute cutoff for acceptance for the sum of the quantitative and verbal portions is 300, although higher scores may be required in some semesters depending on the strength of the applicant pool. The minimum GRE writing score is 3.0.
