The Department of Public Health and Recreation develops professionals who champion wellness and enhance living, working, learning, and recreational environments. Our approach follows a Teacher-Scholar-Practitioner Model, fostering collaboration among students, alumni, faculty, and communities to progress public health and recreation disciplines. The undergraduate public health program explores diverse health determinants (physical, emotional, social, environmental, and spiritual) while applying scientific principles to population health improvement through epidemiology, policy, and community initiatives.
Our academic offerings at all levels feature learner-focused programs emphasizing community growth, equity, cross-disciplinary methods, and global perspectives. We prioritize rigorous innovation, hands-on learning experiences, and professional preparation. Through strategic planning, we've established this vision: To pioneer transformative education, research, and practice by uniting public health and recreation to drive societal progress, creating equitable communities where lasting health and wellbeing flourish.
