The Bachelor of Science in Communicative Disorders and Sciences, provided by the Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences, serves as a foundational program designed to equip students for advanced studies in audiology or speech-language pathology.
The department's goal is to cultivate innovative, research-driven professionals and advocates for the speech-language pathology field and related areas. Our approach emphasizes clinical training and research that champions the needs of diverse populations through culturally aware, student-focused education. As one of California's pioneering Communicative Disorders and Sciences programs, we've been training future speech-language pathologists and audiologists for over five decades. Speech-language pathologists assess and treat communication and swallowing challenges in both children and adults, while audiologists specialize in hearing and balance conditions. Our undergraduate program lays the groundwork for graduate-level education, which is essential for entering these professions. The Master's in Speech Language Pathology holds accreditation from both the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Kay Armstead Center for Communicative Disorders (KACCD) offers speech, language, and hearing services to SJSU members and the broader community.
