Voice students will explore core principles of singing technique (breath control, vowel shaping, pitch accuracy, vocal resonance, and articulation) and diverse musical repertoire spanning art songs, operas, and sacred choral works in multiple languages throughout their four-year program. Weekly instruction consists of private lessons and group performance classes.
Beyond the mandatory junior and senior recitals for the Bachelor of Music degree, performance options encompass: choral ensembles, opera performances, light opera productions, and specialized workshops led by guest artists. Students may audition for various choirs, join the Collegium Musicum ensemble, participate in the Listening Hour Concert Series, and attend Repertoire Classes.
The School of Music and Dance offers the BM-Bachelor of Music in Music Education, which meets California's single subject credential requirements as authorized by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Those pursuing alternative pathways or credentials in non-listed disciplines must successfully complete all sections of the relevant CCTC-approved subject matter assessments.
