The BA in Linguistics program, provided by the Department of Linguistics and Language Development, focuses on the systematic examination of language's essence, organization, and purpose. Scholars in this field explore language origins, word evolution and significance, linguistic diversity, cognitive insights revealed through language, and practical applications like cross-cultural interaction, language education, and its role in critical fields such as healthcare and legal systems. Linguistics also plays a pivotal role in human-computer interaction through natural language processing (including AI and speech technology). The curriculum features cutting-edge tools for speech analysis and perception research. Majors develop analytical reasoning and solution-oriented abilities, gaining strong foundations for graduate work in linguistics, anthropology, communications, education, legal studies, and speech pathology. Multilingual students possess particularly advantageous backgrounds for linguistic studies.
