The Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education equips educators with specialized expertise in research, theory, and practical approaches for serving diverse young learners and families in multilingual environments. This program draws both domestic and global educators dedicated to advancing equity and innovation in early childhood education. A strong focus is placed on educator-led research, observational documentation, and critical reflection as cornerstones of progressive early learning practices. Experienced faculty offer dynamic coursework, personalized guidance, and hands-on research experiences. Flexible scheduling includes late afternoon and evening classes with hybrid in-person and online options. Qualification Requirements

To meet the minimum eligibility standards for graduate study at San Francisco State, an applicant must:
1.Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, or shall have completed equivalent academic preparation as determined by the appropriate campus authority,
2.be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended,
3.Have a 3.0 GPA or better in their earned undergraduate degree or the last 60-semester (90-quarter) units completed, or have earned a post-baccalaureate degree, and
4.Meet the professional, personal, scholastic, and other standards for graduate study, including qualifying examinations, as appropriate campus authorities may prescribe. In unusual circumstances, a campus may make exceptions to these criteria.
Statement of purpose:
A clear and well-organized statement of purpose that states the following:
Your professional competencies & goals, and your goals for graduate school and the future: describe what you have done previously in early childhood education and what you were doing now and what you hope to do once you get our degree.
Your level of competency in languages other than English, if you are bilingual and/or bi-literate
Two letters of recommendation that include the following topics:
Your academic ability to pursue graduate work (from a professor or instructor)
Your professional experiences teaching young children or adults (from an administrator or other professional educators)
