For over 75 years since its founding in 1946, SF State's Recreation, Parks, and Tourism (RPT) Department has built a legacy of academic distinction. Students benefit from accomplished faculty with deep expertise across teaching, research, and community engagement, along with an evolving curriculum shaped by student and alumni input, industry trends, and guidance from RPT professionals. This prepares graduates to: Design Transformative Experiences that Inspire, Enable, and Inform. The department provides a COAPRT-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration, ensuring program quality and professional recognition. Through hands-on learning and up-to-date coursework, the RPT program equips students with practical knowledge. Those completing RPT 600GW (previously RPT 660 GW) after fall 2010 fulfill the university's GWAR writing proficiency requirement.
