The School of Engineering provides Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil, Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, along with minor options in each field. Computer engineering merges electrical engineering with computer science, focusing on developing and implementing computer systems. These systems span from massive supercomputers to miniature microprocessors integrated into devices like cars, household appliances, smartphones, medical equipment, and office tools. The curriculum covers computer hardware, software, system integration, interfaces, and real-world applications, with a strong focus on analytical and design skills. As a result, students in this program need robust mathematical and scientific knowledge. They cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and an understanding of technology's societal influence. Graduates can enter the workforce directly or pursue advanced studies in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or other fields like business, law, or medicine. The Bachelor of Science programs in Civil, Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering require 127, 128, 129, and 129 semester units, respectively. At least 30 units must be completed at SF State.
