Philosophy has long been associated with the pursuit of wisdom and the capacity to thoughtfully examine the principles underlying human behavior, the essence of existence, and life's fundamental goals. Our department enables students to engage in a structured exploration of philosophical traditions from different eras and cultures, fostering a more profound and expansive perspective on global matters and human experiences. Philosophical inquiry cultivates essential abilities for refining arguments, revealing underlying assumptions (both personal and others'), evaluating competing values, and dissecting complex ideas. Philosophy courses are designed to strengthen these analytical capabilities. Certain classes focus on particular philosophical questions, while others survey broad domains of human knowledge or activity - including science, art, political and legal theory, healthcare, social equity, and cognitive processes - or investigate the philosophical underpinnings of specific historical epochs.
