The Bachelor of Arts program caters to students with a broad interest in mathematics, while Bachelor of Science options focus on applied mathematics and statistics. The department provides mathematics education courses for aspiring elementary and secondary school teachers. Program details can be obtained from the mathematics department office. The Teaching specialization prepares students for mathematics instruction in middle or high schools, equipping them with essential mathematical knowledge and practical classroom experience through volunteering in nearby public schools. This track also fosters the development of teaching skills, adaptability, and insight to nurture students' creative mathematical thinking and bridge informal ideas with formal mathematical concepts. Completing this concentration fulfills both early field experience and subject matter competency prerequisites for a single-subject mathematics teaching credential. Mathematics undergraduate programs assume prior knowledge equivalent to two years of high school algebra, one year of geometry, and at least one trigonometry semester. Given the sequential progression of math courses, all students should regularly consult with departmental advisors throughout their degree programs.
