The School of Art and Design provides undergraduate education culminating in a Bachelor of Arts in Art. This program aims to deliver fundamental theoretical knowledge, technical skill development, and creative opportunities crucial for professional careers and advanced studies in visual arts. Degree candidates benefit from committed faculty with diverse specializations spanning ceramics, exhibition curation, furniture craftsmanship, jewelry making, painting techniques, photographic arts, sculptural works, and community-based art initiatives. SDSU's ceramics program emphasizes harmonizing traditional craftsmanship with modern artistic concepts and relevant themes. Learners explore the complete spectrum of ceramic arts while cultivating their unique creative vision and conceptual approaches. Participants may concentrate on either sculptural creations or functional pottery designs. The curriculum regularly hosts guest artists to facilitate varied student engagement opportunities. Since ceramics belongs to the Applied Design concentration (encompassing jewelry/metalsmithing, woodcraft, and textile arts), interdisciplinary media integration is promoted when suitable.

Graduate applicants with international coursework are required to submit transcripts (academic) and proof of degree (diploma/degree certificate) both in the original-language and an English translation, from all post-secondary schools attended, to Graduate Admissions. Transcripts/grade reports are required from all post-secondary schools attended. The student must have earned at least 30 units of coursework listed on the official program of study with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Official transcripts have been received indicating English as the principal language of instruction.
