The undergraduate Jewelry and Metalwork program offers comprehensive training in techniques, processes, and conceptual development to prepare students for careers as modern designers, makers, and artists. In a fully-equipped studio with supportive faculty, students take practical courses covering fabrication basics, casting methods, surface decoration, color techniques, and digital tools under the guidance of instructors with extensive artistic and technical knowledge.
The program focuses on equally developing technical precision and creative vision, motivating students to expand their artistic boundaries while refining their craftsmanship. Student projects span practical jewelry and small metal objects to experimental works that explore the cultural and personal significance of adornment. Through the Jewelry Students Coop, participants can organize annual sales and secure funding to bring internationally acclaimed guest artists for workshops. The curriculum encourages cross-disciplinary exploration, helping students develop varied viewpoints and adapt to the evolving world of contemporary craft, art, and design.
