The SDSU Department of Anthropology provides a Master of Arts program grounded in a comprehensive four-field anthropological perspective. This approach allows students to explore the biological, cultural, linguistic, historical, and humanistic aspects of human variation.
Graduate candidates gain hands-on experience in unified anthropological methods through faculty-guided research projects and access to cutting-edge laboratory resources. These include specialized facilities such as the Biological Anthropology and Primatology Laboratory, Computational Archaeology Laboratory, Environmental Archaeology and Anthropology Laboratory, Historical Archaeology and Maya Studies Laboratory, and Zooarchaeology Laboratory.
