San Diego State University stands out within The California State University system, featuring the sole independent astronomy department and operating a research observatory on Mount Laguna, just east of San Diego. Our faculty teach astronomy courses ranging from introductory overviews of the universe to specialized classes for Astronomy or Physics majors. SDSU provides two bachelor's degrees with astronomy specializations: the B.A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences and the B.S. in Applied Arts and Sciences. Both programs focus on astronomy, physics, and mathematics, but the B.A. includes foreign language proficiency, while the B.S. requires extra coursework in astronomy and related fields.
