The undergraduate Music Education teacher-training program at the School of Music and Dance has earned recognition as a California State model curriculum due to its creative approach, high job placement rate for new educators, and alignment with current State and National Music Content Standards.

Every graduate who has fulfilled degree and credential requirements has secured teaching positions across Southern California and other regions. The program offers students a well-rounded music education foundation through coursework in: music theory, ear training, technology applications, composition techniques, orchestration, conducting, musical analysis, repertoire studies, music history, diverse cultural traditions, choral and instrumental pedagogy, general music instruction methods, hands-on teaching practicums, field experience in classroom settings, and involvement in various ensemble performances.

Qualification Requirements

Completion of high school/secondary level. A certified copy of graduation certificate or diploma will be required prior to enrollment at SDSU. A minimum U.S. equivalent GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 (B grade or 80 percent) or higher. TOEFL Passing score is 80 iBT and 550 paper or higher. IELTS Passing overall score is 6.5 or higher.
