The Islamic & Arabic studies program offers a specialized track within the broader social science framework. This interdisciplinary approach delivers comprehensive knowledge about Muslim-majority communities worldwide, covering their religious traditions, linguistic practices, cultural expressions, economic systems, political structures, and historical developments. Students choose between two concentrations: Islamic studies or Arabic studies. The Islamic studies track prioritizes humanities disciplines, featuring foundational coursework in religious studies, historical analysis, and cultural exploration. Conversely, the Arabic studies concentration focuses on linguistic proficiency and social science methodologies, with required courses in Arabic language (or related languages), political science, and economic theory.

Qualification Requirements
If you are graduating from a high school outside of the United States, your application will be reviewed on the following admission criteria Completion of high school/secondary level. A certified copy of graduation certificate or diploma will be required prior to enrollment at SDSU. Review the Requirements by Country for country specific information.
A minimum U.S. equivalent GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 (B grade or 80 percent) or higher.
English Proficiency: If you are attending or have attended a high school where English was not the primary language of instruction, you must meet university-level competence in English through one of the following:
TOEFL Passing score is 80 iBT and 550 paper or higher.
IELTS Passing overall score is 6.5 or higher.
