What sets San Diego State University apart in the California State University system is its standalone astronomy department and the operation of the Mount Laguna research observatory, conveniently located just east of San Diego. Our faculty teach astronomy courses ranging from introductory overviews of the cosmos to advanced classes for students majoring in Astronomy or Physics.

At SDSU, undergraduates can pursue two astronomy-focused bachelor's degrees: a Liberal Arts and Sciences B.A. or an Applied Arts and Sciences B.S. Both programs emphasize astronomy, physics, and mathematics, with the B.A. requiring foreign language proficiency and the B.S. including more extensive coursework in astronomy and related fields.
