San Diego State University's Biology Department provides outstanding degree programs instructed by more than 35 dedicated, research-focused faculty members. The department supports around 1,300 undergraduate Biology and Microbiology majors, 80 minors, over 150 graduate students, and numerous students from other disciplines. SDSU delivers diverse course offerings spanning cellular/molecular biology, ecology, evolution, and related areas. Each semester, undergraduates can choose from more than 50 courses, most featuring class sizes under 30 students or lab sections capped at 25. Unlike many institutions, we offer an exceptional number of hands-on laboratory and field courses. Graduate students teach all introductory labs, while professors frequently lead upper-division lab instruction. Our strong focus on practical lab experiences, interactive learning, and research opportunities equips graduates exceptionally well for biology careers, health professions, or advanced academic pursuits.
