The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programs emphasize specialized research areas. Candidates undertake independent scholarly investigations leading to a dissertation and published works in academic journals. Supplementary coursework aligned with the research focus is mandatory. Ph.D. candidates design a study plan requiring endorsement from their Faculty Advisor, Department Chair, and Director of Graduate Programs. This personalized curriculum is tailored to each student's academic background and professional aspirations, enabling them to shape their educational path accordingly. The engineering Ph.D. mandates 60 post-bachelor's credits, including at least 12 dissertation credits. A small portion may be 4000-level courses, with the remainder at 5000-level or above. Students holding an M.S. degree may apply up to 24 credits from their master's program (excluding thesis/project credits) toward the Ph.D. requirements, subject to departmental approval.
