Students can earn their M.A. in just three semesters after finishing their bachelor's degree and major, along with two graduate courses in women's and gender studies. Saint Louis University's accelerated bachelor's/master's program (ABM) enables exceptional women's and gender studies majors to start their M.A. during their final undergraduate year. This field focuses on analyzing human experiences through the lens of women and gender, combining insights from humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The discipline explores institutionalized gender disparities, imagines fairer societal structures, and investigates methods for social transformation. It also examines cultural variations in gender norms and their intersection with other forms of inequality like race and class. Course offerings span diverse topics including Gender and Popular Culture, Violence Against Women, Feminist Theory, Feminism in Action, and intersectional approaches to feminism. The 30-credit master's program includes five foundational courses on feminist theories, knowledge systems, research methods, contemporary issues, and an internship. Students then select five electives from various departments such as political science, African American studies, philosophy, and more.
